Computer Classes

The Crawfordsville District Public Library is offering an assortment of free, introductory computer classes for adults who have little or no experience using a computer.  Adult learners will be introduced to computer basics using laptop computers with Microsoft Windows 7 operating systems. The laptops will be equipped with mice and keyboards.

Registration begins Wednesday, March 20. To register for a class, visit the reference desk on the second floor of the library, or call (765)362-2242, ext. 100. No voice mail registrations accepted. Class sizes are limited to five participants per class to allow for personalized instruction. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. Wait lists will be formed if classes fill. Classes will be held in Room C in the lower level of the library.

Introduction to Computers: Part A will meet on Wednesday, April 3, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
Participants will be introduced to:    
-The inside of a computer
-Basic computer terminology
-Microsoft operating systems
-Using a mouse and keyboard
-Tablet computers

Introduction to Computers: Part B meets Wednesday, April 10, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
*You must have completed Introduction to Computers: Part A.
Participants will be introduced to:
-Files and folders
-File paths
-Creating and saving a folder & document
-Storage devices
-Downloading and installing

Introduction to the Internet is Wednesday, April 17, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
* You must have completed Introduction to Computers Part A & B or have some familiarity with using a computer, basic terminology, and using a mouse and keyboard.
Participants will be introduced to:
-Definition/history of the Internet
-Internet browsers
-Internet search engines
-Searching on the Internet
-Navigating a website
-Bookmarking
Introduction to Computer Security meets Wednesday, April 24, 6:30-8:00 p.m.
* You must have completed Introduction to Computers Part A & B or have some familiarity with using a computer, basic terminology, and using a mouse and keyboard.
Participants will be introduced to:
-Definition of malware/spyware
-Microsoft security updates
-Free security programs
-Backing up important files

Introduction to Microsoft Excel 2010 is Saturday, April 6, 2013, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.* You must have completed Introduction to Computers Part A & B or have some familiarity with using a computer, basic terminology, and using a mouse and keyboard.Participants will be introduced to:
-Excel 2010 interface/ribbon
-Creating/opening worksheets/workbooks
-Cells, rows, columns
-Entering /manipulating data

 
Introduction to Microsoft Word 2010 meets Saturday, April 13, 2013, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.* You must have completed Introduction to Computers Part A & B or have some familiarity with using a computer, basic terminology, and using a mouse and keyboard.Participants will be introduced to:
-Creating/saving/finding word document
-Formatting text
-Page layout
-Spell/grammar Check
