J.K. Rowling (born July 31, 1965 in Gloucestershire, England), author of the Harry Potter series, was named Time's runner-up for the Person of the Year in 2007. Before the success of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Rowling struggled to make ends meet as a single parent on welfare. In 2007, she was ranked the 48th Most Powerful Celebrity by Forbes magazine.
